Tuesday’s episode of ABC’s The View was supposed to be the debut of the show’s new token conservative panelist, actress Candace Cameron Bure (pictured above, right). But as the opening titles ended and the show began with a discussion of the Kentucky clerk who refused to issue gay marriage licenses, the Christian actress was mysteriously absent from the set.
As the minutes ticked by, the cast welcomed controversial “comedienne” Joy Behar back to the show after a two-year absence and continued talking about the gay marriage issue. But Bure was still nowhere to be seen on the show despite being featured in the show’s opening credits.
Fans quickly took to Twitter wondering where the famously conservative, Christian actress was while the rest of the liberal panel talked about the Kentucky clerk.
Many assumed that ABC made the move to exclude Bure on purpose to keep her from voicing her opinion about the clerk who was arrested for refusing to issue gay marriage licenses in Rowan County, Kentucky. After all, in April, Bure got into a heated discussion over gay marriage with openly gay panel member Raven Symoné when the Oregon bakery owner who didn’t want to cater to a gay wedding was in the news.
Finally, halfway through the show, conveniently after all the talk of gay marriage was over, Bure suddenly appeared on the panel.
The actress related how she was wrapping the filming of her new TV series Fuller House, gushed about her series, and noted that she will be “commuting back and forth” and is “not going to be at the table every day” for episodes of The View.
Bure then said that “after November I will be here more consistently.”
But Bure also took to Twitter to assure fans that it wasn’t her choice to miss the discussion about the Kentucky clerk. She wasn’t being a “coward” on the issue.
After the show aired, Bure told fans that missing the conversation wasn’t her idea. “Not my call, but producers. I was bummed I didn’t get a voice on it,” she wrote.
