(Before It's News)

A sonogram picture of her baby changed 17-year-old Claire Crawford’s life forever.

Crawford was pregnant with her boyfriend’s baby while in college. She said finding out she was pregnant sent her reeling.

“I made choices prior to getting pregnant that put me in that situation,” she confessed, admitting she had a hard time believing the pregnancy was a reality. “I couldn’t even actually believe that I was pregnant.”

Crawford said she came from “a great family,” and her parents had provided all she needed growing up and set up a college fund to pay for school. Yet, she couldn’t immediately tell them her news. She had no one. The relationship with the baby’s father was tumultuous, Crawford said.

“My baby’s dad and I had a rough relationship, and it only got rougher,” she said.

She said abortion crossed her mind more than once. Crawford said she begged God to help her and then met a young woman named Anja, who was a pro-life student leader at Mississippi State. Anja took her to the Center for Pregnancy Choices when was almost 12 weeks pregnant, which is typically the timeline threshold to get most legal abortions. The center gave Crawford a free sonogram.

“I saw my little bitty baby. I saw its heart beat. I did my nervous laugh, attempting to hold back my tears, as I watched my tiny baby jump and dance around. That’s when I knew that I was going to do this, whatever it took,” she said.

Life during pregnancy wasn’t easy. She told her mom when she was 16 weeks pregnant, and the relationship between the two of them grew. She was five months pregnant when she dropped out of college and lost her two jobs. Crawford said she didn’t know how she was going to provide for her child.

“I prayed that God would lead me to do what was best for my son,” Crawford said.

She and the baby’s father broke up seven months into the pregnancy, and her mom let her move back home one month before she was due. Her son, Taylan, was born on July 30. He’s almost three months old.

”My pregnancy was filled with some of the hardest times of my life, but it’s had the best outcome. I do about 98 percent of it on my own with little help. But it’s so worth it. I’ve never loved my life so much,” she said.

Crawford said she is sharing her story to inspire other young women in her situation.

“Everybody has a different story, especially every young mom, and some aren’t as lucky to get out of such a bad situation and into a better one before the birth of their baby. But maybe hearing about how it’s been for me will give somebody that ounce of hope they need to make it through today,” she said.
