Trump Just Achieved What The Critics Never Thought Possible In The Face Of Widespread Attacks
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump did what many said couldn’t be done. He surged in the latest polling and landed 41 percent of those who plan to vote in the GOP primary race.
Trump lunged far ahead of his closest contender, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who came out of the nationwide Monmouth University poll at 14 percent.
“Looks like we just broke another polling ceiling,” he tweeted. “While the establishment schemes to nominate someone they control – the voters are clearly indicating that they want someone who will fix the broken political system in DC. Thank you for your support! We will #MakeAmericaGreatAgain!”
The latest poll was taken after Trump proposed to ban all Muslims from entering the United States until Washington fixes its vetting process. Trump’s remarks came after a mass shooting in San Bernardino left 14 dead. One of the shooters was Tashfeen Malik, who immigrated to America on a visa program as she was the fiancé of the other shooter, Syed Farook, an American born Muslim. Farook, according to officials, had been radicalized.
Trump’s call for a halt to Muslim immigration brought much criticism from both Democratic Party officials as well as fellow Republicans.
While the latest poll brings good news to Trump, and to some degree Cruz as it puts him second, it also was favorable to Sen. Marco Rubio. His poll numbers show 10 percent support, putting him in third place in the GOP primary race for the 2016 presidential election.
Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, a surging candidate in October, saw a severe drop in the polls. He went from 18 percent support in October to 9 percent in Monmouth’s latest survey.
