An ISIS fighter has executed his mother, Lena, after he turned her in, reported the Daily Mail. Ali Saqr al-Qasem turned in his mother to ISIS authorities when he discovered she was attempting to leave ISIS and flee Syria. Her son found out about her plan when she asked him to accompany her. She was tried under Sharia law in an Islamic court and was sentenced to death for apostasy. Saqr al-Qasem then carried out the death sentence by shooting and killing her.
ISIS fighters consider themselves holy warriors, and the ISIS battle flag serve as it’s symbol. It reads, “There’s no god but Allah and Mohammed is his prophet.” This is also called the Shahada, or the Muslim statement of faith. The statement of faith is universal in Islam, crossing borders, languages, and cultures.
What those in the West may consider shocking, like a man executing his mother, is not so shocking to many Muslims. As Western Journalism has reported, honor killings, that is, death sentences for apostasy as well as the killing of Christians, Jews, and all unbelievers, is widely accepted throughout the “moderate Muslim” world.
It is unclear if Lena al-Qasem had indeed converted to another religion or if she simply wanted to escape the radical Islamic rule under ISIS.
As has been recently reported by Western Journalism, proponents of Sharia law seek to superimpose Sharia law over the U.S. law code. If Sharia law ever becomes a reality in the United States, Americans may very well see more honor killings and death sentences carried out from charges of apostasy.
Western Journalism also detailed how wealthy Saudis and Sharia law proponents were able to successfully establish an Islamic Law Center on the campus of Yale University.
