(Before It's News)

Chicken sold at a grocery chain with locations in six states has been recalled because it was sold without being federally inspected, the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Tuesday.

About 1,125 pounds of chicken sold by the Rochester, New York-based Wegmans Food Market was recalled. The USDA termed this a Class 1 Recall.

A Class 1 Recall is defined by the USDA as “A health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

The food products have the establishment number “EST. or P-7567” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were sold in Wegmans retail locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the food being recalled.

The FSIS listed the following products being recalled:

  • 1-pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Italian Flavored Chicken Breast Cutlet” with a use-by date of 1/24/2016.
  • 1-pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet” with a use-by date of 1/15/2016.
  • 3-pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wegmans Garlic & Fennel Whole Chicken Roaster” with a use-by date of 1/13/2016.
  • 1-pound vacuum-sealed packages containing “Wokery Sherry Chicken 27482” with use-by date of 1/13/2016.

Consumers with questions about the recall should call Wegmans Consumer Affairs Department at (800) 934-6267, ext. 4760.

The FSIS said the recall was instituted because its inspectors learned the products were produced outside the approved hours of operation when FSIS inspectors were not present.

Consumers should return the product to place of purchase for a full refund.
