If Edward Snowden were a politician running in an election he’d likely not win in his home country.
However, if the NSA whistleblower were seeking a public seat in many other countries his chances of being victorious would be much better. That’s the impression after a recent poll showed his popularity in the United States is not overly high while, in places such as Germany and Canada, for example, he’s more welcome.
The poll, commissioned by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), showed roughly 64 per cent of Americans familiar with Snowden hold him in a negative light, reports US News. Roughly two-thirds of Americans know who Snowden is, but in Germany many more people — approximately 95 percent — are aware of him.
ACLU’s executive director provided an opinion piece for The Los Angeles Times noting Snowden’s popularity in America is strongest among youth. It may be a sign of changing times in the United States, he suggested.
“The broad support for Edward Snowden among Millennials around the world should be a message to democratic countries that change is coming,” Anthony Romero said in a statement. “They are a generation of digital natives who don’t want government agencies tracking them online or collecting data about their phone calls.”
It’s interesting to note the ACLU poll was conducted in February. The results are different when compared to polls done closer to Snowden’s headline-grabbing revelations about the NSA’s activities. Those polls — carried out in June and July 2013 by Quinnipiac University — showed 55 percent of Americans viewed him as a whistleblower. The term traitor was applied by 34 percent of respondents in those earlier polls.

I’m thinking all these ‘polls’ we’re hearing about are about as legitimate as our national elections!! Who really thinks we elect our presidents? Snowden is a hero!
