‘Dear Dad! I Wait for you to Come Home; I Wait for you Here’

Editor’s note: On June 15, Chung Ting-pang, the manager of a high-tech company in Hsinchu, Taiwan, visited relatives in Jiangxi Province. On June 18, on his way back to Taiwan from Ganzhou Airport, state security detained Chung and placed him under “residential surveillance” on the pretext of “assisting the investigation of Falun Gong.” Relatives and friends believe that state security officers and the 610 Office (a body created to implement the persecution of Falun Gong) have confined Chung in Zhanggong area of Ganzhou City, but his exact location is unknown. The following is the open letter of Chung’s daughter, Chung Ai, posted on facebook.
Dear President Ma, all kind-hearted people of all walks of life at home and abroad, and my friends. With best regards to all of you, please help save my dad.
As the manager of a high-tech company in Hsinchu, Taiwan, and one of Taiwan’s Falun Gong practitioners, my dad Chung Ting-pang made a trip to Yongkang City, Jiangxi Province, in June, to visit relatives. According to his original schedule, he will take China Southern Airline flight # CZ3256 on June 18 at 11:50 a.m. from Ganzhou and will stop over at Shenzhen at 1:00 p.m. We expected him to get home (Taiwan) that evening via Hong Kong.
After seeing off my dad at Ganzhou Airport, the relatives in mainland China could not contact him nor reach him by cell phone. On June 19 at 7:30 a.m., my mom reported it to the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF). On June 23, the Taiwan Ministry of Justice told us that the National Security Agency was holding my dad in Zhanggong area of Ganzhou, Jiangxi. I am very anxious, as we are so worried about his safety. “Please help!”
Many of you probably do not know much about Falun Gong. I must solemnly declare that Falun Gong is indeed a good faith. It advises people to perform good deeds. Even though I have not yet practiced Falun Gong, I know full well that it is a great practice. It has brought harmony to my family.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) attacked Falun Gong and called it a cult. Since 1999, the CCP (outnumbered by Falun Gong practitioners and in great fear of its power being stripped) resorted to extralegal and inhuman methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.
In the 21st century, there is no freedom of religion, faith, and speech etc.in this regime and society. As a government, it could be likened to a bunch of robbers who seize and confine a foreign national indiscriminately. On this immense land, there is no freedom of thought, and there is no way to build the most basic human rights. I am very angry and feel helpless, because I know a little citizen like me cannot fight a big monster. There are wicked people in this world, but today, my family has helplessly crossed paths with them.
In a June 22 press conference, Falun Gong lawyers and practitioners expressed much concern about us. Mama and I are very grateful. I feel that the longer my dad stays there, the worse the situation will be. With the help of the news media, we can let the world know our outrage—maybe the Republic of China will actively help us.
Please join our request to the Taiwan government. Step in so that my dad can be released sooner. We want to widely disseminate this information because the more people learn of this incident and pay attention to it, the better.
That’s the best and only way right now to help my dad. Thanks a million.
I last saw my dad at the graduation ceremony. Now, every time I think of him, I just cry and pray boldly with tears. But, I must be brave; I have to protect mama and daddy. Daddy, you’re brave too; you have to come home safely for the sake of grandma, mama, little brother, and me.
