(Before It's News)

China’s Three Gorges to diversify as big dam projects dry up. China Three Gorges Corp, the country’s biggest hydropower developer, plans to diversify into wind, solar and other new energy forms, with the market for giant new dams already in decline, a senior company official said.

China must change economy to meet climate targets. Chinese leaders pledged for the first time to cap the country’s decades-long growth of greenhouse gas emissions. Fulfilling its pledge, however, will require China to transform a booming economy that still largely depends on polluting industries such as steel production and manufacturing.

Meltdown in Tibet. China’s construction of dams on the Lancang (or Upper Mekong) threatens a complex ecosystem downstream that supports over 60 million people in Southeast Asia.
