John Kerry, the new Secretary of State has already spoken out against Iran’s imprisonment of America citizen Pastor Saeed Abedini:
“We remain deeply concerned about the fairness and transparency of Mr. Abedini’s trial,” Kerry told Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) when asked for his response to Pastor Abedini’s case. “I, along with the U.S. government, condemn Iran’s continued violation of the universal right of freedom of religion and call on the Iranian authorities to respect Mr. Abedini’s human rights and release him.”
Response: His response truly indicates that Secretary Kerry has actually looked into the case and really does know the particular circumstances. It is good to see a representative the American government coming out with a specific statement that is far more than the general platitudes that are usually released by the US State bureaucrats.
The Iranian authorities have been disingenuous in their treatment of Abedini and his family. Last week they told his wife they were going to release the pastor over the weekend but he was sentenced to 8 years in prison instead for “endangering national security”? The result of a sham trial where the Pastor was not allowed to answer the charges against him or even attend. *Top
