My Angels and Pop Culture

(Before It's News)

I have a confession to make this morning.  I have spent my spare time in recent months watching older sci-fi and slasher movies.  First of all, let me explain how I do this.  I am not into advertising for products, but my wife and I have been talking about getting rid of cable all together.  She bought me a Roku this past Christmas.  Through this device I am able to watch all the older movies I want to see, some going as far back as into the 1920's.  There was a period in my life when I didn't even attend movies.  And when I did attend movies, I was very careful choosing which movies I wanted to see.  I never spent any time until recently to catch up on a part of culture that I missed.

I try to keep off my computer and turn off all TV after seven in the evening.  My mind needs time to relax before I go to bed.  Some might think then that slasher movies would keep me awake.  Actually, no.  First of all, they are just movies.  Secondly, I am curious as to the motivation people have to murder and instead of staying up watching the news about real murders, I can see into the minds of Hollywood writers who invent all the various motivations as to why people murder.  Some might then ask me about the horror slasher movies.  Actually, horror doesn't frighten me in the least.  Satan has no power over me.  I want to see what frightens people and I want to see a part of the culture that I missed.  One, I don't pay to watch these movies, and two, I know for a fact they aren't real stories that are being told, although some might think that Hollywood influences minds.  If someone is influenced by the movies coming out of Hollywood, one's mind is warped already.  If someone believes that they can summon satanic forces by watching a movie, then in fact, they can do this without watching the movies.  These movies only intention is to shock and frighten.  Nothing shocks me and nothing frightens me.

I told my wife once that I fantasize about spending nights in “so-called” haunted places.  I can't be around those who have already purposely taken Human Life.  But then I think to myself that if indeed I spent time in haunted places, I would be tempting God.  I don't want to do this either.  But the fact is that people take Human Life.  My curiosity only extends to understand why people do.  I know Satan is behind every deed that even threatens Human Life.  I will never be able to stop the murders as I won't be able to stop warfare.  But understanding HOW Satan works is the first step to understanding why people are motivated to take Human Life.  If one is influenced by pop culture to take Human Life, my thinking is that pop culture isn't the problem.  I see pop culture as a reflection of the kind of world in which we live.  I can watch movies because they are not real.  I can't watch the news about murder and warfare, because that is as real as it gets.  Peace.  Brother Ralphie From The Angels of Life Institute Brother Ralphie works from his study for the promotion of Peaceful living and inner Peace with God.
