-Canada: New Law Against ‘Islamophobia’
Some are calling a new bill that passed today in Canada’s Parliament a ‘blasphemy’ bill to protect Islam against all criticism. Here’s the story from the Daily Wire:
On Thursday, backed by Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government, Canada’s Parliament passed M-103, a bill focused on condemning “Islamophobia.”
The bill reads:
The government should: (a) recognize the need to quell the increasing public climate of hate and fear; (b) condemn Islamophobia and all forms of systemic racism and religious discrimination and take note of House of Commons’ petition e-411 and the issues raised by it; and (c) request that the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage undertake a study on how the government could (i) develop a whole-of-government approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination including Islamophobia, in Canada …
Response: The problem with the bill is that ‘Islamophobia’ is not clearly defined and it is left to a committee to determine how the Canadian government should proceed in its opposition.
Plain old racism and religious discrimination are already covered by Canadian law and were obviously added to this bill just so folks could not claim that it is all about giving Islam a new special ‘protected’ status. I wonder what this bill would do if anything about the Montreal Imam calling for all Jews to be killed? A clear example of racism and religious discrimination but not Islamophobia. Islamophobia might come into play if someone dared to criticize the Quran text used by the Imam.
In the end, eliminating supposed Islamophobia is undoubtedly going to be all about limiting and curtailing free speech when it comes to Islam. Similar to the religious ‘blasphemy’ bill that Muslim nations are trying to get passed in the UN. Meanwhile it will still be ‘open season’ on conservative Bible believing Christians in liberal Canada. *Top
