Operation Gladio 2.0: Return of the secret army?
There are some subjects in the conspiracy world which are so seminal and world shattering that they seem to perpetually reside in the conspiracy super consciousness and over time are called on from time and again still producing a sense of wonder and awe. One of those seminal subjects is Operation Gladio, and given the renewed interest in the subject people have begun to write about it again, with varying levels of detail and accuracy.
For those of you who are as of yet uninitiated to the story of Operation Gladio, it was a secret program, funded by NATO directly, to create a private and subversive army which could be called upon in the event of a Soviet invasion.
The logic was that in the dark days after World War 2 recognized an emerging global threat to “freedom” from the Soviet Union. The blockades in Berlin, the rapid expansion of Soviet forces and hegemony across western Europe only served to bolster that belief.
The problem was that at that time, and probably accurately in retrospect, was that the military planners believed that NATO or “The Western Powers” could not contain a full Soviet invasion and as a result large portions of Western Europe would be lost in the early hours of a full spread incursion. The solution? Operation Gladio.
The military planners recognized at that time that the enemy of my enemy was my friend so to speak, so select military operatives approached Werewolves cells originally setup by Nazi super solder Otto Skorzaney to act as a stay behind army and preform sabotage, subversion, intelligence gathering and in general be nuisances to the oncoming Soviet forces.
