October 3, 2012 JAPAN - Suwanosejima (諏訪之瀬島?) is a volcanic island with a population of about fifty people, located in the Tokara Islands, part of the Ryukyu Islands, Japan. It is 8 km long and is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan. An explosion was reported this morning (around 07 am GMT time) with an ash plume reaching 10,000 (about 3 km) altitude. –Volcano Discovery
