CBC Canada reports that Dennis Sinnott (Canadian Institute of Ocean Science) said that a 69-centimetre wave was recorded off Langara Island on the northeast tip of Haida Gwaii, formerly called the Queen Charlotte Islands. The islands are home to about 5,000 people, many of them members of the Haida aboriginal group.
Another 55-centimetre wave hit Winter Harbour on the northeast coast of Vancouver Island, while a 12-centimetre wave was recorded in Tofino, on Vancouver Island’s west coast.

- At Hawaii the wave is estimated to arrive at 10:28 PM local time
- For those among you interested to look at live webcams, we have found a live broadcasting webcam from Hawaii – Click here to watch it. A surge of less than 1 meter will be hard to see in the dark. Some stirring water (shaking boats) are a possibility. We hear the Tsunami warning sirens howling at the webcam. Great initiative from this webcam owner to do the live streaming !

- The tsunami evacuation seems to work well at the moment. A lot of people (ut limited in number) have been called to evacuate for higher ground and did so in the meanwhile
- The epicenter of the 3 M5+ aftershocks is heading more to the coast. No aftershock of M6 or more so far

The tsunami alert will only affect a limited number of people. Tsunami level calculations are extremely difficult as the wave height can be different for every portion of the coast depending on the coastal floor.

- People living in coastal areas along British Colombia and Alaska should better be going for higher ground. Tsunami calculations are far from perfect and a auto-safety move for higher ground is always preferable.
- The area is merely unpopulated and the closest populated settlements are quite far from the epicenter.
- Haida Gwaii is a National Park, but should be almost without visitors at this time of the year.

Burns Lake bc - 8:11 pm local time. We live half way between Houston and Burns Lake in British Columbia. It was a rolling shaking feeling and lasted about a minute. Vancouver - On 28th floor of apartment. Felt swaying and hanging light fixtures swayed. Smithers BC - Chair moving up and down, felt like something under the chair bumping it. Liquid in glass moving back and forth. Powell river - Pot rack and blinds swaying back and forth Sayward BC - Not a hard shake, more of a roll type, but lasted a fairly long time Powell river - Pot rack and blinds swaying back and forth Fort st. James B.C. - Metal closet door was rattling for about 30 seconds and lazy boy chair was rocking a little. felt a little off balance Prince George - Blinds rattled against windows -chandelier swayed. Powell River - Swinging light fixtures, 3 waves.. Langley BC - Chandalier and blinds moving. Comox BC - We noticed that our light fixtures were moving. We didn't notice any shaking or hear any noise. Somewhat shocking surprise. Never felt motion anywhere near this power before. Overhead lights on chains swinging. No interruption to power, but phones on landline out for 10 minutes. Motion lasted about a minute. No evidence of breach of gas line. Everything back to normal. (I hope.) Jumped up to see what was causing it and deduced it was an earthquake. Vancouver B.C. - On the 23rd floor of a concrete high-rise in downtown Vancouver, my chandeliers and vertical blinds shook for about 30 seconds at around 8:15 p.m. PST. port mcneill - felt wiggling of my office chair while at the computer. went on for less than a minute. walls and windows did not rattle or anything. Prince George Bc - Was sitting in Moxies having some drinks with friends and I could feel my chair swaying and the chandelier was swaying heavily. I didn't clue in until my boyfriend said I think that was an earthquake. Vanderhoof - My dog and I both felt it at the same time. I thought my wood stove chimney was on fire so I ran downstairs and realized the noise I heard was the bathroom door banging against the shower stall. When I came back upstairs all of my ceiling lamps and stained glass art I have hanging was swaying. Felt about two minutes after Prince George felt it. Terrace BC - Light fixtures started swaying, felt like I was on a boat rocking back and forth. Prince Rupert - slow rolling quake, felt like I was on a boat Richmond, BC - Sitting at my desk, I felt it was moving, then I looked at the blinds, they were swaying. I live on the 15th floor. Went downstairs, and saw a lot of people coming down also. Kitimat - Could see walls moving, got out of the house every one on our street was outside Kamloops - Was lying on the floor watching tv when the verticle blinds started swaying back and forth, then it stopped and started again for another minute. This went on for about 3mins in total! Kelowna bc - the light fixtures in our 11th floor apartment starting swaying for at least 45 sec. Port Clements - Pictures on the walls were swinging and as the shaking continued the movement lengthened. The power flickered several times but remained on. Terrace - The shaking seemed to be quite lengthy compared to other earthquakes I have experienced, and I momentarily felt dizzy from the underfoot instability. Bookshelf was moving with items hanging from it banging. Our pets also reacted. Ootsa Lake, BC - Hanging basket,vertical blinds swaying moderately, picture frames on wall tilted, cups crept on table. More an undulation than shaking motion. Duration approximately 1 minute. 'Shaking' seems the wrong word; it was much more like a sliding and swaying; like being on the deck of a boat. Very odd feeling; as if the floor or ground was like a snake sliding beneath you. Edmonton - In a highrise in downtown edmonton the chandelier was shaking and the blinds were banging against the window. Scared me enough that i put my boots and coat on and was thinking of leaving the building. I thought earthquake right away and checked this site to see if there was one close to me. Prince George - Was sitting at my computer around 8:05pm. My chair rolled a bit, I was swaying back and forth, thought I was getting dizzy, so I turned and looked at my plants and blinds, they were swaying too (about an inch either way). This lasted for about 30 seconds. My thoughts are with you all in the west coast. Tahsis, BC - Dog went canine, running around, trailer shook and crysals hanging in the window were banging against the glass. lasted about 2-3min. We are at hi ground now, waiting for the wave? Chilliwack,BC - Sitting in the White Spot restaurant,we saw the pendant light swaying for a long period of time. We thought is was the air conditioning and concluded it was an earthquake as it was so obvious it was not the A/C. McBride - I was in a restaurant when the hanging light fixtures and signs swayed for what seemed like 10 mins. A couple of people had dizzy spells including my mom who has vertigo. Dawson Creek - hanging lights were swaying Forestry Hill, Haida Gwaii - Felt the start of a typical earthquake tremor here, but soon realized it was intensifying more than usual. The sound of rumbling furniture was intense over the undertone of the crashing trees outside from the woods. The enitre three story solidly built cedar timber home was swinging. Still intensifying, the position under the doorframe was ridiculous, and the run down the stairs, through the hallway and out the door was quick, however there was still shaking and movement from the ground, and the Queen Charlotte Village - When will they stop. It sounds so quiet out there, then wham! It's like a gale force wind hits the house. Rumbles.

MMI II (Very weak shaking)	? People : Felt by persons at rest, on upper floors or favorably placed.
MMI III (Weak shaking)	? People : Felt indoors; hanging objects may swing, vibration similar to passing of light trucks, duration may be estimated, may not be recognized as an earthquake.
MMI IV (Light shaking)	? People : Generally noticed indoors but not outside. Light sleepers may be awakened. Vibration may be likened to the passing of heavy traffic, or to the jolt of a heavy object falling or striking the building. Fittings : Doors and windows rattle. Glassware and crockery rattle. Liquids in open vessels may be slightly disturbed. Standing motorcars may rock. Structures : Walls and frames of buildings, and partitions and suspended ceilings in commercial buildings, may be heard to creak.
MMI V (Moderate shaking)	? People : Generally felt outside, and by almost everyone indoors. Most sleepers awakened. A few people alarmed. Fittings : Small unstable objects are displaced or upset. Some glassware and crockery may be broken. Hanging pictures knock against the wall. Open doors may swing. Cupboard doors secured by magnetic catches may open. Pendulum clocks stop, start, or change rate. Structures : Some large display windows cracked. A few earthenware toilet fixtures cracked.
MMI VI (Strong shaking)	? People Felt by all. People and animals alarmed. Many run outside. Difficulty experienced in walking steadily. Fittings : Objects fall from shelves. Pictures fall from walls. Some furniture moved on smooth floors, some unsecured free-standing fireplaces moved. Glassware and crockery broken. Very unstable furniture overturned. Small church and school bells ring. Appliances move on bench or table tops. Filing cabinets or "easy glide" drawers may open (or shut). Structures : Slight damage to buildings with low standard. Some stucco or cement plaster falls. Large display windows broken. Damage to a few weak domestic chimneys, some may fall. Environment : Trees and bushes shake, or are heard to rustle. Loose material may be dislodged from sloping ground, e.g. existing slides, talus slopes, shingle slides.
MMI VII (Very strong shaking)	? People General alarm. Difficulty experienced in standing. Noticed by motorcar drivers who may stop. Fittings : Large bells ring. Furniture moves on smooth floors, may move on carpeted floors. Substantial damage to fragile contents of buildings. Structures : Unreinforced stone and brick walls cracked. Low standard buildings cracked with some minor masonry falls. A few instances of damage to buildings of ordinary workmanship. Unbraced parapets, unbraced brick gables, and architectural ornaments fall. Roofing tiles, especially ridge tiles may be dislodged. Many unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, often falling from roof-line. Water tanks Type I burst. A few instances of damage to brick veneers and plaster or cement-based linings. Unrestrained water cylinders (hot-water cylinders) may move and leak. Some common windows cracked. Suspended ceilings damaged. Environment : Water made turbid by stirred up mud. Small slides such as falls of sand and gravel banks, and small rock-falls from steep slopes and cuttings. Instances of settlement of unconsolidated or wet, or weak soils. Some fine cracks appear in sloping ground. A few instances of liquefaction (i.e. small water and sand ejections).
MMI VIII (Severe shaking)	? People Alarm may approach panic. Steering of motorcars greatly affected. Structures : Low standard buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. ordinary workmanship buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged in some cases. A few instances of damage to buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes. Monuments and pre-1976 elevated tanks and factory stacks twisted or brought down. Some pre-1965 infill masonry panels damaged. A few post-1980 brick veneers damaged. Decayed timber piles of houses damaged. Houses not secured to foundations may move. Most unreinforced domestic chimneys damaged, some below roof-line, many brought down. Environment : Cracks appear on steep slopes and in wet ground. Small to moderate slides in roadside cuttings and unsupported excavations. Small water and sand ejections and localized lateral spreading adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
MMI IX (Violent shaking)	? Structures Many low standard buildings destroyed. Ordinary workmanship buildings heavily damaged, some collapse. Reinforced masonry or concrete buildings damaged, some with partial collapse. Buildings and bridges designed and built to resist earthquakes damaged in some cases, some with flexible frames seriously damaged. Damage or permanent distortion to some buildings and bridges, designed and built to normal use standards. Houses not secured to foundations shifted off. Brick veneers fall and expose frames. Environment : Cracking of ground conspicuous. Landsliding general on steep slopes. Liquefaction effects intensified and more widespread, with large lateral spreading and flow sliding adjacent to streams, canals, lakes, etc.
