Moderate (deep ?) earthquake in Peru
At 12:07 AM UTC (just after midnight UTC) a moderate M4.7 earthquake M4.7 occurred in the heavily populated greater Titicaca Lake area.
ER was alerted as the first data who came in indicated a shallow depth of 10 km (10 km also means regularly : we do not know it exactly).
USGS who reports a little later mentioned however a depth of 74 km, which is a normal depth for that area of a subduction earthquake (The Nazca plate subducts the South American plate, hangs, and if it breaks away an earthquake is generated)
IGP Peru had no values at the time of writing. We trust USGS in this case and expect that this earthquake will not generate serious damage or injuries.
Update 08:48 UTC : It looks like IGP Peru has not listed this internationally detected earthquake.
