Surgery Waits Fall
[Ed. Note: This is a story from a Canadian newspaper, celebrating the fact that 2,000 less people had to wait over half a year for surgery. That represents a 9% drop. So, in a province of roughly 1 million people, approximately 25,000 of them are hoping to get surgery "within 6 months" as a goal... a positive goal. This is socialized medicine.]

REGINA — More than 2,000 fewer patients waited for surgery in Saskatchewan on June 30 than on the same date in 2011.
“The latest results take us through the first quarter of the 2012-13 fiscal year,” said Mark Wyatt, executive director of the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative. “When we look at the overall improvement compared to a year ago, we’re seeing nine per cent fewer people on the waiting list and that represents about 2,225 fewer patients waiting for surgery.”
Since the surgical initiative began in 2010, there has been a 23 per cent reduction, Wyatt said.
“For this year, our focus has been on trying to get all patients in for their surgery within the six-month time frame,” he added, noting first-quarter results show 97 per cent of patients get surgery within 12 months and 89 per cent within six months.
