New College Graduates Face Uphill Battle
Expert shares tips to give recent grads a competitive advantage on employment

KNOXVILLE, TN. (Jun 4, 2012) – With millions of college students graduating this month, college graduates ponder the employment landscape and hope to navigate through the economic crisis.
Dr. Daryl Green, noted lecturer, shares with college grads and their parents job strategies that will increase their chances of job opportunities.

According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers are expected to hire 10.2% more college graduates this year than in 2011.  Even though employers plan an uptick in hiring college grads, the job search will still be difficult in this financial crisis. Furthermore, recent college students must address their mounting debt from their college experience. Ten percent of college grads from 2007-2008 with student loans have borrowed more than $40,000 according to the College Board of Trends in Student Aid study.

As the financial debt looms for most college grads and their parents, conventional wisdom says they must do something different if they want to be successful. Dr. Green argues, “I think we have not adequately prepared this generation for economic downturns. It requires a mental toughness that most parents have shielded their child from by solving the adult child’s problem.”  He suggested parents do not aid their child in this behavior. Dr.  Green knows much about the employment picture.  He has done extensive research on cultural issues impacting today and future leaders. His last book, Job Strategies for the 21st Century: How to Assist Today’s College Students during Economic Turbulence, has been rated number one on Amazon.com. The book provides practical solutions to the challenges today’s college students face as they struggle to find employment in an unstable economy.

Dr. Green remarks: “Today’s job market demands that students develop their own personal strategy for employment. From our experience acting as student advocates in academic and community settings, we frequently find ourselves encouraging students to plan for their career aspirations.” His book provides some less traditional steps for effectively positioning current college students to better compete in future job markets.”

Job Strategies for the 21st Century is available online at Amazon.com and other book retailers. You can also view the book trailer on Youtube.com at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_LKEMrIweA. Dr. Green is available for media interviews. For more information about the book or the authors, please contact Donna Gilliard at 865-216-9209 or visit Dr. Green on his website, www.darylgreen.org.
