Your Reputation Precedes You…NetClarify Can Help!
On November 14, 2012, the Social Jobs Partnership, a collaboration between Facebook and the Department of Labor and other government job agencies, announced the launch of its application to leverage social media to connect job seekers with job openings. Facebook’s launch of their new job search application opens up a lot of questions, including are you Facebook-ready to apply to jobs?
Social Jobs Partnership Application
Facebook described the new app in a post made on the Social Jobs Partnership page as follows:
At first glance, the app appears to be a comprehensive job search tool that searches multiple job databases at the same time. At the time of writing this blog the total number of jobs posted to the application was over 1.9 million.
The app allows you to filter your search by category, subcategory, location, and whether the job is “veteran-friendly.” Additionally, the five job databases are listed at the bottom so that you can see the opportunities that matched your search filtered by which source they came from. Finally, once you click a listing, Facebook takes you to a brief description with a link to the full job posting on whichever site it was found on. The process from start to finish takes 30 seconds, if you know what you’re looking forward, and is pretty intuitive.
The Future
For the time being, the SJP app only takes you to the site where the job is posted; Facebok doesn’t currently collect resumes. But with the sheer size of its user base (over 900 million users) and its users’ preference to use Facebook over other sites (one in every seven minutes spent online are at Facebook.com), Facebook will likely further develop its app to compete more directly with online job boards.
For instance, Monster.com is expensive for employers to use and has seen its market share and stock price drop. Additionally, LinkedIn’s over 175 million users still amount to less than Facebook’s 220 million users over the age of 45. The potential for Facebook to operate a successful job board while leveraging the trend of social media recruiting is incredible and I am excited to see the developments.
Such possible happenings may mean companies could have greater direct access to your Facebook profile as you apply to jobs. While this is not yet reality, it is an approaching possibility for which you may want to start preparing.
