Career politician Joe Manchin vigorously endorsed Barack Obama’s candidacy in 2008.
Now, four years later he not only refuses to endorse the man he helped put in the Oval Office, he won’t even tell West Virginians if he will vote for President Obama’s re-election.
The Daily Mail reports that Manchin tries to explain his refusal to level with the people of West Virginia – through a spokesperson, of course:
“Senator Manchin believes that partisan divides are the biggest problem facing Washington, and that every elected official should be judged on how well they do their job, not who they will vote for.”
Really Joe? We are $16 trillion in debt, unemployment has been above 8% for 42 consecutive months, wages are plummeting, the housing market is still in the tank, and the coal industry is being systematically killed by Joe Manchin and Barack Obama’s failed policies and Joe Manchin says that “partisan divides are the biggest problem” right now?
“This just shows how out of touch Joe Manchin is. People can’t find work, their homes are being foreclosed on and coal mines are closing almost daily, all thanks to Joe Manchin and Barack Obama,” Republican senate candidate John Raes said. “But this explains why our country is in the mess it is in. Our elected leaders are completely clueless as to what the problem is. Joe Manchin thinks we need a change of tone in Washington, but what we actually need is a change of leadership.”
In typical career politician fashion, Sen. Joe Manchin’s reaction to Mr. Raese’s simple question: “I want a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, Joe: Are you going vote for Barack Obama?” was to lash out at Raese.
The Daily Mail reports that Manchin’s response was “that’s the reason we don’t want you, Mr. Raese, in the United States Senate: you just embarrassed yourself.”
“Only a career politician would think it embarrassing that a constituent dare hold him accountable,” Raese said. “Joe Manchin is everything that is wrong with Washington. The man helps put Barack Obama into office. He is complicit in Obama’s War on Coal, voted against repealing Obamacare and for the $781 trillion failed stimulus, with a record like that I can understand why he refuses to come clean with West Virginians. He is a complete and utter embarrassment of a United States Senator.”
