Re:                  Extreme Liberal Tammy Baldwin

Date:              August 14, 2012

As we look ahead to tonight’s results in the Wisconsin primary battle and the general election over the next three months, a story today from ABC affiliate WXOW in La Crosse, Wisconsin perfectly encapsulates the biggest obstacle facing Democrats as they work to hold this important Senate seat – Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin’s  target="_blank" href="/r2/?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIiSCowZA6E" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">extreme liberal ideology and record in Congress.

With the headline,  target="_blank" href="/r2/?url=http://www.wxow.com/story/19267842/senate-hopeful-baldwin-boasts-liberal-record" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Senate Hopeful Baldwin Boasts Liberal Voting Record, the piece reads in part:

  • ·         Political Scientist Joe Heim says Baldwin has frequently drawn praise from liberal political groups for her voting record.  Heim says that’s not surprising, considering she represents a district including the City of Madison.  ”To be a Madison Democrat in Congress, you have to be fairly liberal,” Heim says. “It’s the most liberal city in Wisconsin. So if she fits that role and gets very high ratings from liberal groups, that can also be a weakness in a general election.”   ”If she’s perceived by the public as being too liberal, it’ll be hard for her to move to the middle and appeal to independents and moderates,” Heim adds.

And that is why no matter who wins tonight’s Wisconsin GOP Senate Primary one thing is certain – the voters of the Badger State will have a very clear choice this November between a fiscally-responsible, pro-jobs Republican and longtime Madison Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, who the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said has the “most liberal congressional voting record of any Wisconsin lawmaker in the last 40 years.”  In fact, out of all 435 members of Congress, Baldwin is tied for first as THE most liberal and her more than 25 year record in elective office makes it impossible for her to run away from that label.

On issues like taxes and spending, Baldwin is far left of even President Obama, which is no small task when you consider the federal debt has skyrocketed under his watch.   To get a sampling of just how far left Tammy Baldwin is consider:

style="text-decoration: underline;">HEALTHCARE

  • Baldwin believes ObamaCare  target="_blank" href="/r2/?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qTCy3Hu49c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">didn’t go far enough, telling voters that she was for a complete government takeover of medicine – a single payer plan.  In fact, the Wisconsin State Journal has called Baldwin’s push for a government health care system the “defining” issue of her political career, and she voted to raid Medicare by over $700 billion to help put our country on that path.

style="text-decoration: underline;">TAXES

  • Baldwin is to the left of President Obama on taxes
  • In 2010, she opposed the bi-partisan tax cut compromise signed into law by the President

style="text-decoration: underline;">ENERGY

  • Baldwin voted for cap-and-trade saying it is the cornerstone of efforts to halt global warming
  • Baldwin sponsored a “greenhouse gas registry act,” which would provide for the creation of a federal greenhouse gas registry

style="text-decoration: underline;">SPENDING

  • Baldwin voted for the failed $787 billion stimulus

style="text-decoration: underline;">CAREER POLITICIAN

  • Has held elective office since 1986

Over the last several years Wisconsin voters have made clear that they are looking for fiscally responsible leaders who will help get our nation’s economy back on track with lower taxes and less spending.  Since 2010, Wisconsin has elected a Republican governor, a Republican U.S. Senator, and sent two new Republican members to Congress because they understand that the Obama-Baldwin approach to governing is what’s helped keep unemployment above 8% for 42 straight months, has led to unprecedented debt, and is causing our nation’s health care costs to skyrocket.

Baldwin hopes Wisconsinites will forget that when she helped Nancy Pelosi and President Obama ram the stimulus into law three years ago, she predicted it would create almost 70,000 new Wisconsin jobs.  Instead, Wisconsin has lost jobs and we’ve watched as millions of stimulus dollars were wasted or used to create jobs in foreign countries.

Yet, Tammy Baldwin not only wants to double-down on the Democrats’ failed economic agenda, she unapologetically believes Washington should go even further.  She believes with all of her heart that the federal government isn’t spending enough, isn’t taxing enough and isn’t regulating enough.

Make no mistake – now that the general election is upon her, Baldwin will desperately try to skew the conversation to anything but her clear record as a very liberal elected official.  Baldwin has already attempted to change the conversation to some odd notion that she’s somehow a job creator all while failing to mention she has supported the very policies that are keeping our economy stuck in the doldrums.

After 25 years of holding elective office, Baldwin is far to the left of not just President Obama, but to the vast majority of voters in Wisconsin.  And that is a record she will be held accountable for in the months ahead.
