Natural Disasters List November 25, 2012-Sri Lanka flood toll rises to 5

Recent Natural Disasters

• Flooding across England and Wales
  -One killed and two others injured in recent disasters in Exeter City Centre. Flooding in Somerset, England also killed one person two days ago.
  -More than 800 homes flooded by storms in England and Wales.
  -Several flood warnings were issued by the Environment Agency in Lostwithiel, Helston, Polperro and Perranporth area.
  -Because of a landslip at Honiton and flooding near Axminster in Devon, today trains between Exeter St Davids and Yeovil Junction were cancelled.
  -Following Malmesbury Mayor Ray Sanderson, the flooding in Malmesbury is the worst that he has seen in a lifetime in the town.
  -Around 271 flood alerts and more than 220 flood warnings remained in place across England and Wales.
  -Heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the north of England and Scotland today (Sunday).

• Flooding in Ratnapura and Kamburupitiya, Sri Lanka
  -The number of people killed in flooding in Ratnapura and Kamburupitiya area of Sri Lanka has risen to 5.
  -Flood affected Sri Lankan district of Anuradapura, Badulla, Moneragala, Ratnapura Hambantota and Galle and Matara.
  -The Hambantota district was reported to be worst affected area. More than 300 families are affected by recent floods. More than 25 houses were damaged in Suriyawewa in the Hambantota district.
  -Flood displaced more than 190 families in Moneragala.

• M 3.9 light shallow earthquake in Hawaii region, Hawaii (@ 15 km depth) with epicenter located 41 km SE from Pahala. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Naalehu, Volcano, Hilo, Honomu, Keaau, Kurtistown, Mountain View, Pahoa and Kamuela.

• M 3.0 weak shallow earthquake in Southern California (@ 12 km depth) with epicenter located 22 km ESE from Anza. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Borrego Springs, La Quinta, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, Indian Wells, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage and Idyllwild.

Recent Flash Floods
Ongoing Major River Floods (Based on Satellite observation): Afghanistan (Amu Darya), Australia (Darling), Brazil (Rio Paranaiba, Juruena, Purus and Tocantins), Chad (N Djamena), China (Mekong and Huang He), Colombia (Putamayo and Rio Negro), Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ubangi), Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq (Euphrates and Tigris), Kenya (Bohoni and Turo), Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Sudan (Blue Nile), Taiwan, Tanzania (Mwanza Shinyango road), Uganda (White Nile) and United States (Rio Grande, North America).

• Flooding in Lukut, Malaysia
  -Three hours continuous rainfall flooded more than 200 houses in Lukut.
  -Worst affected areas were Kampung Batu 7, near Sendayan, Taman Wawasan, Taman Jaya Lukut and Taman Indah Jaya.
