Nov 29, 2012 – Most annual reports now talk about sustainability and the company’s efforts to reduce energy, carbon footprint and emissions. Is most of it talk and not really making a dent in the problem? Seventy-eight percent of companies reporting say they are incorporating climate change into their planning. However, about a third of companies reported no reduction in their emissions. Most companies are reporting based on looking back at previous levels, with many less making forward looking targets and seeing how they progress towards them. Management may include targets in their planning, but shareholders only seem to be interested in increased revenues and profits. No company’s stock gets punished if they do not meet their emission targets. What is happening with the company that you work at or at companies in which you have shares?
