The Olympia Washington based gourmet sauerkraut company, OlyKraut, has just won another Good Food Award, which honors a wide variety of delicious edible products across our nation that are responsibly produced with integrity and thoughtful dedication. Nell Newman gave the keynote address at the popular event, and many other local food rock stars were also in attendance.
The awards were announced in San Francisco, and provided many reasons to get excited about our growing local and regional food specialties. The prizes highlight the very best gastronomical delights of our edible future, and also illuminate just how uniquely diverse and innovative food production has become.
Sea Vegetable and Curry sauerkraut were the champion fermented deliciousness this year for OlyKraut; the successful business also won a Good Food Award two years ago for their delectable Eastern European ferment. OlyKraut is a most righteous woman-owned business that supports scores of small farmers, and purchases tens of thousands of pounds of locally grown organic produce in order to manufacture their delicious product.
The 2014 Good Food Awards received 1450 applicants, including entrants from every single state in the union. Local food activist Sash Sunday is one of the founders of OlyKraut; she said that all of the winners in this year’s competition were amazing, especially the amazing Delicatta and Butternut squash seed oils, and that they were truly honored to be in such good company.
