Lite Access Technologies Inc (CVE:LTE) has started building its fibre optic network for the city of New Westminster in British Columbia, further showcasing its revolutionary narrow trench technology.
In February, the firm reported it had been awarded the $459,000 deal.
For the initiated, Lite Access is the world leader in air blown fibre and micro-trench solutions for fibre optic cable installation.
It cuts small micro-trenches in the road and uses compressed air to blow broadband fibre through the tubes.
Already tested and in use in the UK, Lite Access now offers a slightly wider and much deeper cut made at depths ranging between 18 and 24 inches, four to six inches wide, which supports a uniquely designed microduct capable of high-fibre-count installation.
This is an alternative to the more invasive and more costly traditional trenching approach.
Mike Plotnikoff, chief executive, said: “..the introduction of narrow trenching is a major industry breakthrough and for Lite Access specifically proves our position in the market as a world leader for rapid and cost-effective fibre optic connectivity solutions.
“Having proven microtrenching as the solution of choice for fibre connectivity, Lite Access continues to remain the industry-leading innovator with the advancement of equipment and processes for more mission critical backbone connectivity.
“The significance of developing this first-ever technology and addressing industry needs cannot be overstated. It will provide us access to more projects and strengthen the company’s growth in markets around the world.”
In the UK, Lite Access crews of four people are cutting 90 to 150 metres per day for backbone/trunk applications for major telecom operators.
