Its a good alternative for renewable energy, but unfortunately some mishap will happen until we master the combination of wind (mother nature), engineering and technologies
Happens all the time and , no, it is not a good alternative for renewable energy. If it wasn’t for subsidies the damnable things wouldn’t even make enough to cover their maintenance costs.
Plus they can’t be used as base load. Do you know what that means? Whenever the wind blows and the turbines are generating there is a coal burner or nuclear generator on high idle ready to kick in if the wind dies. “High idle”? What i really mean is running flat out but wasting its generating capacity to heat because you can’t just flick a switch and kick the starter on these things after all.
Then there’s the stability issues when wind generation approaches, or exceeds, 20% of normal requirements. Wind generation is unsustainable, uneconomic, and stupid if not criminal.
It ate too many bald eagles and falcons, and developed fatal indigestion. It’s green energy only when the birds it’s grinding up have been eating grasshoppers. Funny, but you have all the ecologists screaming how evil house cats are for destroying other wildlife, but you never hear one word from them about how many tens, hundreds of thousands of birds these things are killing yearly. I guess it’s all just an ‘Inconvenient Truth’, as Al would say.
