A mini-dump file is created each time your computer running Windows 7 crashes. These mini-dump files are memory images at the point in time when your computer crashes. By default Windows 7 keeps the last 50 mini-dump files. If you use these dump files to troubleshoot computer crashes, then having the last 50 dump files may be useful.
However, if you’re not interested in troubleshooting at this level, then 50 mini-dump files are just consuming valuable disk space. In this case, you can reduce the number of dump files that are saved. To do so, open the Registry Editor. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ CrashControl. Double click MiniDumpsCount and reduce to value. For example, by changing the value to 1, Windows 7 only saves the most recent dump file.
