(Before It's News)

When the Nokia 808 PureView smartphone was first announced some months back, many people were left wondering just how many megapixels can a camera cram in, especially in a smartphone device. Well, we are talking about a whopping 41-megapixels here, which is definitely far more than what we would have bargained for. Of course, do not expect the file size to be a whole lot larger, as Nokia managed to come up with some sort of algorithm which was capable of keeping the file size of photos snapped with the Nokia 808 PureView nice and small – relatively speaking, of course.

After months of waiting, at last the Nokia 808 PureView smartphone is released in the US, where this revolutionary smartphone is said to come in an unlocked form factor, not to mention unsubsidized. You will be able to get it via Amazon.com. US customers are able to pick up the Nokia 808 PureView for $699 a pop, where it will be able to play nice with a compatible SIM card from AT&T, and if you are curious enough, it will also be able to function with T-Mobile, although that would limit you to just 2G speeds.

The Nokia 808 PureView will come with a 41-megapixel sensor, which Nokia claims is their highest performance Carl Zeiss optics to date, not to mention having it accompanied by Nokia’s spanking new pixel oversampling technology that gets the job done – and rightly so. With PureView technology, one is able to capture typically sized shots, where the camera can then rely on oversampling to merge with up to seven pixels into a single “pure” pixel, hence doing away with the visual noise that is more often than not discovered on other mobile phone cameras. In blind tests performed by GSMarena readers, the Nokia 808 PureView smartphone is more than ready to hold its own against the competitors.

Any takers?
