Xiaomi, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has already stirred up the entire smartphone market not only in India but worldwide. It had given us some great products at unbelievable low prices. Just a few weeks ago Xiaomi unveiled the MI Note and MI Note Pro and will launch them soon. There has not been some solid news regarding the final date for the launch of the Mi 4. Finally, Xiaomi has launched the Mi 4 in India at a price of Rs 19,999 only. The phone will be put on sale on 10 Feb 2015.
Xiaomi Mi 4 packs some good specifications. It sports a 5.0 inch FullHD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. It has a pixel density of 441ppi. The device has a 72 per cent body to screen ratio. Even after being a 5.0 inch device the Mi 4 is very compact. It measures 139.2 x 68.5 x 8.9 mm and weighs 149 grams only.
Inside the Mi 4 is a Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset and Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU. The Snapdragon 801 is not the latest chipset available in the market but it has enough power to handle most of the tasks thrown at it. The graphics on the Mi 4 is dealt by Adreno 330 GPU. The phone also has 3 GB of RAM which is sufficient to provide a smooth lag free experience to the users. It will also make multi tasking a breeze. Xiaomi Mi 4 is running Xiaomi’s custom MIUI ROM on top of Android 4.4.4 KitKat. There is not any news regarding when the company would provide Android Lollipop update to its devices. However, Xiaomi has announced that it will start providing the MiUi 6 OS update to its devices. MiUi 6 comes with a revamped interface with new animations, motion graphics, flatter icons, smarter notifications and improved security features.
The primary camera on the Xiaomi Mi 4 is a 13MP shooter with a LED flash and auto focus. It features 1/3” sensor size, 1.12µm pixel size, geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, panorama and HDR. It can record videos of 2160p@30fps, 1080p@30fps, 720p@120fps and in HDR. The front facing camera is an 8MP unit and it should capture good selfies. It also does video recording of 1080p@30fps.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 supports a single Micro SIM. There is not slot for micro SD Card slot and the user will be bounded by the onboard storage of 16 GB only. This is a serious let down. A micro SD card slot would have been a welcome feature. The battery on the Xiaomi Mi 4 is non user replaceable. It is a 3080 mAh unit and should provide enough juice to keep the device going on for a complete day.
Xiaomi has launched the Mi 4 in India only in white color. Even after having good specifications the Mi 4 could be not everyone’s choice because it doesn’t has a micro SD card slot, no Dual SIM card support, no LTE connectivity, and no Gorilla Glass protection, only available in 16 GB variant and in a single color. Xiaomi is selling the Mi 4 in China in black/white and 16GB/64GB configurations and with LTE. So, why to not provide the same for its Indian users?
Xiaomi Mi 4 will go on sale on 10 Feb 2015. The process of the sale will be the same as of the earlier Xiaomi devices. People who are interested in buying this handset would have to register themselves on Flipkart in order to participate in the sale. The registrations have begun from 28 Jan 2015 at 6pm.
