Dara’a. The Massacres Continue. The killing goes on as the world got busy with the Golan incursion. According to Ammar Qurabi of the National Human Rights Organization in Syria 34 people have died in the last 5 days between Dara’a and Inkhil. Dead bodies remain abandoned in groves and in fields of wheat with no access allowed because of snipers and heavy presence of security men. Another Syrian dissident writes on Facebook “Mass Grave discovered in Daraa near the Southern Cemetery. The exact location is west of the southern Cemetery in Daraa Albalad (a small locale is called “Zumlet Muhammad Alsari). Al-Asad Security and army units surrounded the area. Military vehicles has been transporting the corpses. Horrific scenes described by the residents. We call upon the world to investigate. Don’t allow this criminal regime to get away with the massacres and crimes against humanity.” A Video of the mass grave dug in a hurry but left open.
Inkhil. The city is being shelled heavily. Reports of a number of casualties. No power, no water, and no communications. The city has been very supportive of the people of Dara’a.
The Golan Heights. The response to Assad’s terror is to threaten to bomb his palace, his brother’s Maher, and his cousin’s Rami. This regime understands but the language of force. Admirable of Israel to go the route of the law with a complaint at the UN but it will happen again if Israel does not target Assad directly.
Madaya. Has been surrounded by a large contingency of Syrian forces. People expect a similar treatment to that of Talkalakh with homes shelled, snipers killing, and people arrested en masses.
Ma’amoun al-Homsi. The Syrian regime is accusing him of smuggling weapons to Homs. Just another “montage” of the regime to demonize popular figures.
Syrian economy. The regime is sponsoring a march tomorrow at noon it will promote heavily in support of the Syrian Lira. If this is how they think they can save the economy, our battle has been won.
Human Rights Watch. Its reporting has been exceptional. The latest quote from its press release of May 15, 2011 “Syria’s leaders talk about a war against terrorists, but what we see on the ground is a war against ordinary Syrians – lawyers, human rights activists, and university students – who are calling for democratic changes in their country,” said Sarah Leah Whitson.
