Is there a new BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill? That's what the oil giant is trying to find out after reports of a new sheen on the surface of the water in the area were reported to the company. They are currently investigating the sheen with remote observation vehicles (ROV) but it's too early to tell if the sheen is the result of an oil leak in the area.
The company does admit there are two abandoned exploration well sites in the area but that there are no new pipelines in the vicinity.
But they seem to be taking the sighting seriously, in light of last year's bungled handling of the Deepwater Horizon off-shore oil rig explosion, which killed 11 workers and caused an oil spill which released nearly 5 million gallons of crude oil into the ocean…
