Deepwater Horizon oil spill - May 24, 2010 - with locator.jpg

Is there a new BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill? That's what the oil giant is trying to find out after reports of a new sheen on the surface of the water in the area were reported to the company. They are currently investigating the sheen with remote observation vehicles (ROV) but it's too early to tell if the sheen is the result of an oil leak in the area.

The company does admit there are two abandoned exploration well sites in the area but that there are no new pipelines in the vicinity.
