In 2011 a man in Mississippi almost died after eating canned beets. This man developed Botulism from store bought canned beets and has been in and out of the hospital for two years. After reading this news I became very skeptical of eating anything canned at all. I rarely eat fruits or vegetables canned because their are no healthy enzymes left in canned foods but occasionally I will use canned tomatoes bought from the grocery store in my spaghetti. I have realized from this story that it’s hard to trust if anything is quite safe anymore to eat from the store…especially canned foods. This poor man’s life has been completly changed from one bite on some canned beets…I don’t even want to know what their medical bills look like. This man and his family are in my prayers…God Bless!
This story also got me thinking on what herbal remedies could help after getting botulism and how to make sure you don’t get it yourself. Here is what I found:
Botulism, one of the most severe kinds of food poisoning, is caused by the toxins secreted by the bacillus Clostridium botulinum. It can be found in contaminated meat and fish, unrefrigerated and improperly cooked foods, and in food stored in home canning jars. It affects the central nervous system and can cause muscle paralysis. Other symptoms include abdominal pain, vision problems, weakness, difficulty swallowing and breathing. Nausea and vomiting do not always occur. Without immediate care, over 70 percent of botulism infections are fatal. Primary medical treatment consists of removing as much of the toxin as possible with gastric lavages, emetics, cathartics, anti-toxin injections and oxygen inhalation. Only after these emergency treatments are performed should detoxifying agents be taken to remove any residual traces of the toxin (soyouwanna para 1).
You should start taking these herbal remedies after you have recieved proper treatment and care from your doctor…botulism is very serious.
DETOXIFIERS Take charcoal tablets (5 tablets at onset, then 5 more, 6 hours later, with no other remedies). Removes toxins from the colon and bloodstream. Take Kyloic garlic (2 capsules, three times daily, with meals). Sulfur in garlic is a natural, powerful detoxifier that also destroys bacteria in the colon. Take vitamin C with bioflavonoids (8,000 mg daily, in divided doses). Vitamin C detoxifies the entire body and aids in flushing out bacteria.
RESTORATIVES Take potassium tablets (99 mg daily until symptoms subside) to restore proper electrolyte balance. Take acidophilus tablets (twice daily on empty stomach) to replace essential intestinal bacteria that may have been destroyed by bactericides. Take kelp (1,000 to 1,500 mg daily) to replenish missing minerals needed to restore electrolytes.
CLEANSES Take milk thistle and red clover herbs (as directed on label) to aid in cleansing liver and the bloodstream of toxins. Use lobelia herbal enemas to remove toxins from colon and lower digestive tract. Use coffee retention enemas to decrease any allergic reaction to the ingested toxin.
IMMUNITIVES Take vitamin E (800 IU daily) to oxygenate blood and enhance immune function. Take L-cysteine and L-methionine (500 mg each daily, on empty stomach). These add essential nutrients to immune function. Take selenium (200 mcg daily) to stimulate antibody response to infection.
Stay groovy…and stay safe…do home canning!
