Despite New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s proclamation that NYC is a ‘sanctuary city,’ the New York Police Department (NYPD has told federal immigration officials about immigrants facing deportation who are due to appear in criminal court.  Now apparently the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is telling the nation they don’t recognize de Blasio’s authority to create a sanctuary for criminal aliens. And on Tuesday they gave Mayor de Blasio a demonstration of their resolve.

A rapist and illegal alien from Guyana is among the 31 foreign nationals arrested during a three-day operation conducted by officers with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). The officers were in New York targeting criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants, and immigration fugitives.

While immigration activists and many Democratic Party officeholders claim illegally entering the U.S. is not a serious crime, according to federal immigration laws, re-entering the country after being removed is a crime punishable by up to 20-years in federal prison.

According to a former NYPD police officer, despite Mayor de Blasio’s — whose real name is Warren Wilhelm, Jr. — pronouncements and veiled threats, numerous members of the city’s super-sized police department are said to be communicating off-the-record with their Homeland Security Department counterparts including ICE agents. “De Blasio should have thought twice when he made the NYPD the target of his racial tirades,” said retired police sergeant Jacob Bronstein. “He’s one of those politicians who believe the path to victory at the polls is to anger minorities against whites and police,” Bronstein noted.

ICE vehicleDuring the three-day dragnet 30 fugitive aliens possessed disturbing criminal histories such as prior convictions for sex crimes, drug offenses, and fraud. One of those captured by ERO officers faces a pending dangerous drug charge as well as a federal order of removal. Others taken into custody during the operation included a Guyanese national with a prior conviction of Rape in the third degree; and a Honduran felon arrested in the city’s Bronx County whose criminal record includes a sexual assault that injured a minor.

“The operation, conducted by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), targeted criminal aliens who pose a public safety threat and individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws, including those who re-entered the country after being deported and immigration fugitives ordered deported by federal immigration judges,” according to ICE officials in a press statement.

“Some of the individuals arrested during the enforcement action will be presented for federal prosecution for re-entry after deportation, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Those not being criminally prosecuted will be processed for removal from the country. Individuals who have outstanding orders of deportation, or who returned to the United States illegally after being deported, are subject to immediate removal from the country,” officials confirmed..

“Law enforcement operations like this should reassure the public that ICE is committed to putting public safety first,” said Thomas Decker, field office director for ERO New York. “Those who come to the United States to prey upon our neighbors and communities will be prosecuted for their crimes and ultimately returned to their home countries.” Decker stopped short of declaring Mayor Bill de Blasio’s sanctuary claims as being null and void as far as the Trump administration in concerned.

The arrestees (29 men and 2 women) included illegal aliens from 13 countries – Mexico (6); Dominican Republic (5); Guatemala (4); Honduras (4); El Salvador (3); Trinidad (2); Colombia (2); Korea (1); Pakistan (1); Indonesia(1); Nepal (1); Haiti (1); and Guyana (1).

Queens and Suffolk (Long Island) Counties accounted for the largest number of arrests during the operation, but ERO personnel conducted enforcement actions in a total of 10 communities.
