“We are taught all our lives that our modern political systems are ‘by and for the people’,” says James Corbett on Wednesday.
“In order to justify taking us to war, then, our misleaders have to convince us that war is not a racket, as General Smedley Butler revealed, and is not for the benefit of the industrialists who sell the munitions or the politicians in their back pocket or the financiers that own them both, but in the interest of the average man or woman. In other words, they lie through their teeth.
Find out more about the lies that led the United States to Libya in 2011, and the coverup of what is taking place there today in this week’s edition of The Eyeopener report by James Corbett in the video below.
How can people of places like Libya ever forgive the US for war crimes against them? After US violently abused it, Libya will never be able to give the wonderful life it once provided to its citizens. Instead of being the most loved people, Americans have become most hated.
I hope they understand that Americans are kept in the dark about most of the evil that our so-called government reigns down upon humanity. Americans have been lied to and deceived ALL of our lives and when we finally all wake up we will do something about this evil.
I hear what you’re saying. Ignorance of the law, however, does not make a person immune to being held accountable for it. I fear too many people do know crimes US commits and figure if its for oil or whatever they need, its justifiable to maintain the lifestyle Americans enjoy. I’ve heard this said – by Christians even. It’s beyond me.
Good point. When I was teaching in Oman in 2005, a librarian in the medical school said Omanis love Americans. I asked how they could after what we were doing to their neighbors. He said they distinguish between our people and our government. When I asked how they could keep loving Americans after we had reelected Bush II, he said: “We realize the people aren’t very well informed about what’s happening in the world.”
People in other countries are much better informed indeed. Most Americans not only can’t understand how badly informed we are, but we also can’t fathom how much kinder other people are.
