DEBKAfile was founded by a team of journalists in June 2000 as an independent Internet Web site, providing an intelligence and security news service. March 23, 2017, 9:42 AM (IDT)
British counterterror police raided an apartment in the city of Birmingham, about 160 km northwest of London, early Thursday morning and arrested several people in the aftermath of the previous day's terrorist attack. The raid took place in the neighborhood of Egbaston which has four mosques and a 12 percent Muslim population. Nearby streets as well as main roads leading to the area were blocked while the operation was carried out. Several hours earlier, police raided the agency that rented the vehicle used in the attack. Four people were killed and more than 40 others were wounded when the terrorist ran down pedestrians and cyclists on Westminster Bridge and then continued at high speed to the parliament building where he stabbed policemen and passers-by. The terrorist was shot and seriously wounded by a policeman and then taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Our unique angle on these subjects – and strong intelligence dimension – has earned DEBKAfile a global reputation and a steady readership – which skyrockets in times of crisis.
