In the past two days, coastal regions of eastern China have been lashed with gale force winds and torrential rain, as two typhoons hit the area less than 10 hours apart. More than 300 thousand residents were forced to evacuate Fujian province as typhoon Saola, hit Fuding city on Friday. Near 100 thousand fishermen and 6 thousand ships have been ordered to return to port. On land people were warned to prepare for floods, mudslides and landslips. Winds near its centre were recorded at 25 metres per second. It is predicted to move into Jiangxi province late on Friday, bringing torrential rain. As Saola was wreaking havoc on the southeastern coastline, the 10th typhoon of the year, Damrey, battered Eastern China's Jiangsu and Shandong Provinces on Thursday night. It has brought torrential rains to Linyi, Rizhao, Qindao and Weifang. The highest rainfall recorded was 174mm in Rizhao. Typhoon Saola has been responsible for 42 deaths in the Philippines and Taiwan in the last few days. On Thursday Saola snaked its way across Taiwan killing five people. Earlier in the week the typhoon battered The Philippines, where the official death toll stands at 37.
