In today's China news, Beijing officials are hosting an envoy of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, after Westerns powers condemned Beijing for blocking efforts to end to the Syrian conflict. A gruesome but welcome image has been in the media today of the death of Zhou Kehua. Zhou was responsible for the deaths of nine people since 2004 and the injury of five others. His crimes span all across China, many of which were armed robberies involving innocent people. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's uncle, Jang Song-thaek, is in China to discuss setting up joint commercial projects, according to North Korea's state-run KCNA news agency. Radio Free Asia reports that a Tibetan protester was beaten to death by Chinese police in far west China on Monday. The clash between police and Tibetan protesters broke out after two Tibetans set themselves on fire to protest against Chinese Communist rule. China's economy officially grew at 7.6% in the second quarter and is projected to grow at around 8% for the rest of the year. These figures have been questioned by analysts as being unreliable, one of those analysts – Gordon Chang, says other, more reliable, indicators show a much worse state for the Chinese economy. Business owners in northeastern Jilin province are keeping their shops closed. This follows a massive strike in neighboring Liaoning province where businesses accused local authorities of trying to extort money from them.
