A gas explosion in the Xiaojiawan coal mine in south-west China on Wednesday has left nineteen miners dead and 28 still trapped, state media reported. At around 6pm local time the explosion ripped through the mine shaft. It is believed that one hundred and fifty two miners were underground at the time. By Thursday 105 people had been rescued and taken to hospitals in Panzhihua city, where three of them later died. The bodies of 16 miners have been brought to the surface. Rescuers are still trying to reach the remaining trapped miners. Chinese mines are considered to be the deadliest in the world. This is due to poor safety procedures, combined with the pressure to produce huge amounts of natural resources for a growing market. Last year in China coal mining accidents claimed the lives of 1973 miners. For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me
