No New Solutions on Syria after China’s Meeting with Assad’s Envoy

China's Foreign Minister met with an envoy of Syrian President Bashir al-Asaad. Bouthaina Shaaban arrived in Beijing earlier this week. Details of her Thursday meeting with Minister Yang Yiechi came through a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement. In it, Yang urged the Syrian government and the opposition to end the violent conflict that has gripped Syria since March last year. The Chinese regime and Russia have blocked key measures by the United Nations Security Council to impose sanctions on Assad, in a bid to force him to step down. The Chinese regime indicated it could also meet with the Syrian opposition. Yang did not offer any new solutions on Syria's ongoing crisis after Thursday's meeting.
