Thieves in Canada may have pulled off the sweetest heist of all time. Millions of dollars worth of maple syrup has been siphoned off from storage in Quebec, with the crime covered up to avoid detection. It's not yet clear exactly how much was stolen, but the warehouse held more than 30 million dollars worth of syrup – enough to fill one and a half Olympic-sized swimming pools. [Anne-Marie Granger Godbout, Quebec Maple Syrup Producers Official] “Every high value product has imitation and has black market. So we don't know how much is this black market. But of course those people they had a motive and they will probably find a market.” Police are investigating the robbery, while remaining barrels are tested to make sure the contents has not been tampered with. Made from the sap of maple trees, Quebec produces some 75 percent of global supply. But officials say the heist is unlikely to cause a shortage of syrup.
