All the delegates for the Chinese regime's 18th Party Congress have arrived in Beijing. State-run CCTV reports they'll meet and discuss, quote, “issues concerning the future development of the Party and the Country”. The 2270 representatives come from around China. Amongst them are teachers, rural workers and lawyers. The mix of delegates is supposed to ensure that the interests of all Chinese people are addressed, but with every single delegate being members of the Communist Party, some are doubtful whose interests the Congress really serves. [Gong Shengli, Author, Business Analyst]: “There are 2270 delegates at the 18th Party Congress. 1578 of them, or 69.5% are Communist Party officials. The meeting is run by those in power. But for China's 1.3 billion people, 1.22 billion have no say. It's just the 82 million members of the Communist Party holding their meeting, how can they say it's legitimate?” According the state-run China Economic Weekly, 145 enterprise leaders are amongst the delegates. The majority are heads of state-run companies like CNOOC and CNPC. 34 business leaders are from private enterprises, but analysts say even private entrepreneurs have to rely heavily on the Communist Party.
