Geneva pastry maker produces the world's longest “millefeuille” cake, 1221 metres long. Full Story: Volunteers and professionals in Geneva on Sunday smashed the world record for the longest “millefeuille” cake. [Anna Orford, Guinness World Records, adjudicator]: “Well the current world record for the longest “millefeuille” belongs to Belgium, it was in 1992, and that measures 1037.25 meters, so that's a lot of “millefeuille”. Today they're attempting the Guinness World Record and they're gonna try 1200 (meters) of “millefeuille”.” Spearheading the world record attempt was Geneva baker and pastry maker Gilles Desplanches. [Gilles Desplanches, Pastry Maker and "Millefeuille" Initiator]: “To try and quantify the “Millefeuille”, I think we've spent some 1000 working hours producing (the parts for the cake). And to give you an idea, we're going to produce 1200 bags of cream, and in this “millefeuille”, that will make 1200 meters, there are three layers of biscuit, so we've had to make 3600 meters of biscuit.” The goal is to raise money for a breast cancer association in Switzerland. [Angela Grezet, Swiss Breast Cancer Association ASAP/RCS]: “Every centimeter of “millefeuille” costs 1 Swiss Franc (approx $1,05), so we're going to sell pieces of 50 centimeters each, so we hope to raise the maximum money, but it's also great to be able to gather this many people around this cause.” The “millefeuille” was put together and presented at the Geneva autumn fair by around 50 …
