More than a dozen dogs model designs by Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney and others at a London charity gala event. Full story: Dogs from London's Battersea Dogs and Cats Home took to the “dogwalk” on Thursday for the Collars and Coats Gala Ball. Seventeen dogs of various sizes and breeds modeled dogcoats, collars, and leads by UK fashion designers. Among the designers were Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Faberge, Julien Macdonald, Philip Treacy, and Giles Deacon. Model David Gandy was one of the celebrities present who made this event a success. [David Gandy, Model]: “I got more interested after doing all the facts and figures and everything else about Battersea and I asked if I could do anything else, and they said would you like to come on as the ambassador? I had sort of an idea of how to make more money for them.” The CEO of the shelter says Battersea has rescued, reunited, and rehomed over 3.1 million dogs and cats since it was founded. [Claire Horton, CEO of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home]: “Oh it's huge, because it costs about 17 million pounds a year to run Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. It's a hugely expensive operation, because of course we're open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we never close our doors to animals. So we're always in demand and we've been open for 150 years, so it's non-stop.” The items modeled by the dogs are now being auctioned online to raise funds for the animal shelter.
