The death toll from floods in Australia rises to six as water levels begin to recede across Queensland and New South Wales. Full Story: The death toll from floods in Australia has risen to six as flood levels began to recede across the states of Queensland and New South Wales. A deluge fed by Cyclone Oswald dumped more than 200 millimetres (7.87 inches) of rain in some areas over the past few days, swelling rivers and swamping towns. Police said they found the bodies of the fifth and sixth victims in the Lockyer Valley, west of Queensland's capital Brisbane. Local media reported that the men, a Malaysian farm worker and his Taiwanese colleague, were believed to have been hit by floodwaters in their separate cars while on their way to work. The worst-hit areas were around Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Ipswich in Queensland, and around the northern New South Wales towns of Grafton and Lismore. The flood waters began to recede on Tuesday and continued through Wednesday, though some areas remained submerged.
