Irish PM Edna Kenny addresses the European Parliament as the six month Irish EU presidency this month, outlining his priorities and addressing British PM David Cameron's impending Europe speech. Full Story: On Wednesday morning, Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny said during a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg that he believes that his country had made it through the worst of the economic crisis. The Irish EU presidency began in January, and the Fine Gael leader addressed the parliament to outline its agenda for the next six months. Kenny offered guidance through Irish example in overcoming the fiscal crisis. [Enda Kenny, Irish Prime Minister]: “Our people continue to labour under the weight of bank related debt. Austerity has brought pain and suffering to many families and in many homes, but the Irish people have borne that weight, have borne that pain with remarkable courage and patience and dignity. And it is in that story those qualities and the deeper authentic elements of Ireland such as respect and vision and compassion and loyalty that I bring to the European parliament here today.” Kenny looks to solve the sovereign debt crisis, including the “legacy” banking problem. Eurozone countries have agreed that banks in eurozone countries can be directly recapitalized through the region's bailout fund once the European Central Bank is fully established as the single supervisor for the whole banking sector.
