Speaking at a Hamas rally held in Ramallah on the 29th anniversary of the
organization’s inception, Fatah Central Committee member Abbas Zaki said
that “we are working to cooperate and reach a true partnership in politics,
and to stand side by side, in the same trench, against our common enemy -
Israel.” Zaki saluted the Al-Qassam Brigades, as well as the fighters and
martyrs of all factions, and addressed the leaders of Hamas, Fatah, and the
Palestinian Islamic Jihad, saying: “Let us embark on 2017 with the internal
Palestinian conflict behind us.” His address was broadcast by the Al-Jazeera
network on December 17.
Abbas Zaki: Let me say here in the name of Fatah – its leadership and its
cadres – how much we are working to cooperate and reach a true partnership
in politics, and to stand side by side, in the same trench, against our
common enemies – against Israel, which…

Abbas Zaki: I salute the Al-Qassam Brigades. Therefore, anyone who bears
arms for the sake of Palestine is sacred to us. This is important, because
he knows that by doing so, he is sacrificing his life and all he owns for
the sake of the homeland – whether he languishes in prison or is in
Paradise. He sends a message regarding the most just of all causes of this
day and age: The people of the Palestinian cause do not bow their heads.
They carry the banner, and work miracles when things are shrouded in
darkness, or when people lose hope. I salute you and anyone – from any
faction – who has borne arms. I salute the martyrs of all factions. It is
only natural for us to commemorate them on a day like this – the day that
this force of resistance [Hamas] began to operate for the sake of Palestine.

I say to Khaled Mash’al, Mahmoud Abbas, and all other relevant parties,
especially Ramadan Shalah… I say to all these leaders: Let us embark on 2017
with the internal Palestine conflict behind us. Thus, we shall begin our
ascent and demonstration once again that the Palestinian people are the
spearhead of the region. The compass will not, under any circumstances,
point toward America or Israel, as a result of differences among us. Enough!
The restoration of Palestine is the top priority of all our fighters.
