Amman, Feb. 1 (Petra)- The US will provide Jordan with 100,000 tonnes of
wheat under a grant agreement for 2017 signed Wednesday, according to the
Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.

The agreement is part of the Food for Progress Program that the US
government is implementing.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and US
Assistant Secretary of Agriculture signed the agreement.

Fakhoury said the grant and for the forth time comes from the US in
recognition of challenges facing the Kingdom and its role in in serving
Syrian refugees and hosting them.

Prior to this agreement, Jordan had received two “exceptional wheat grants”
from the US government in 2011 and 2012, each amounting to some 50,000
tonnes, within the framework of the Food for Progress Program.
