As many of you know, the Tire Rack One Lap of America is the single best amateur motorsports event you can do. If you don’t know that already, go read my write up on last year’s event and come back. I’ll wait.
One Lap combines the high-speed endurance driving and navigation skills required of the Bullrun or Gumball3000 rally, minus the street racing, with the “put up or shut up” mentality of a full NASA time trial racing season, all in one week, on a single set of tires. To call it grueling would be as big of an understatement as to call it rewarding. Though I haven’t scored the appropriate vehicle yet, I do have one particular ride in mind that will suit my needs quite well, and (for journalistic intergity, y’all), I’m going to have to do a bit of ass kissing in order to get it, so forgive me that.
I would encourage anyone and everyone with an interest in road trips and motorsports to do this event. I will be returning with /Drive’s own Mike Musto, and hopefully Larry Kosilla as well, and I’ll be bringing my A-Game. Hit the jump for video of Mr. Brock Yates Jr., the event’s organizer, revealing the route as well as what events will take place at the given locations.
