Tesla Supercharger calculator aims to compute true cost of travel
Tesla has announced details about its Supercharger usage fee that affects vehicles ordered after January 15, 2017. Model S, Model X and future Model 3 owners will receive 400 kWh of free Supercharger use per year, after which owners using the fast-charging network will incur a usage fee that could vary greatly. Depending on the amount of energy used, billed per kilowatt-hour, or in some cases Supercharger usage rates will be determined by a two-tiered pricing structure that will be based on charging power and duration of use, depending on region-specific regulations, determining the true cost of travel could get a little tricky. This is especially the case if the Tesla road trip spans across multiple locations that have varying Supercharger rates.
Model S owner and Data Geek, Ben Sullins, has created an online Supercharger calculator that aims to alleviate any potential math-headache when it comes to calculating the true cost of travel when using Tesla’s Supercharger network. The online tool takes Tesla’s location-specific Supercharger rates, including regions that leverage the Tier 1 and Tier 2 pricing structure, and computes an estimated cost for using Tesla’s charging network.
