The Terror Birds of Prey Close in on the West
Islamic terror once again strikes Europe. How much more will Western
Civilization take? Will this be the straw that breaks the proverbial camel’s back, or, having let the camel’s nose in under the tent, will Europe (nay, the world) continue its long, slow slide into submission?
A rally in France might, just might, indicate some hope for change: [emphasis added to quotes]
More than 700,000 people on Saturday took to streets across France in tribute to the 17 people killed in three days of violence by Islamist extremists, the interior minister said. …
In Marseille, 45,000 people expressed similar sentiments with a rally banner that said “For democracy, equality, freedom, let’s fight fascism“.
Individual marchers held up placards with the words “Not Afraid!” …
The rallies come ahead of a march expected to draw up to a million people on Sunday in which French President Francois Hollande will be joined by a host of world leaders including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister David Cameron.
Others due to participate include Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and US Attorney General Eric Holder.
The prime ministers of Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands will also attend along with the presidents of Mali, Niger and Ukraine.
Hollande will also be joined by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, president of the European Union Donald Tusk and European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker.
“This will be an extraordinary demonstration… which must show the power and the dignity of the French people who are going to proclaim their love of freedom and tolerance,” French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said. …
But wait! Tolerance?
The words spoken by these (in some cases alleged) world leaders will give us a clue as to whether or not this event, once again, will be used to turn attention away from the threat that radical Islam poses to all free peoples and instead towards some wholly imaginary threat of Islamophobia.
We shall pay close attention to the content of the speeches.
Will these world leaders also decry growing European antisemitism, as exhibited by the most-recent Islamic terrorist murderers as well as far too many more ordinary European citizens? Jews are leaving Paris for their own safety:
Jews are fleeing terror-hit Paris because of growing anti-Semitism in France, one of Britain’s most influential Jewish journalists said today.
Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, spoke out after an Islamic terrorist took six people hostage and held them captive in a Kosher supermarket in the French capital.
This afternoon police ordered all shops in a famous Jewish neighborhood in central Paris to close. …
Mr Pollard said today’s terror attack in Paris, linked to the massacre at the office of Charlie Hebdo, will force more French Jews to flee the country. …
He said the fact that a terrorist had chosen to target a Jewish store was no ‘fluke’.
In a series of tweets he said: ‘Every single French Jew I know has either left or is actively working out how to leave’. …
‘What’s going on in France – outrages that have been getting worse for years – put our antisemitism problems in perspective’. …
So it seems there’s tolerance and then there’s tolerance. It all depends upon the definition of tolerance, no doubt. It also all depends upon who’s expected to be tolerant.
Will we see more of these kinds of counter-demonstrations Europe?
The lights went out on Berlin’s landmark Brandenburg Gate and Cologne’s gothic cathedral on Monday night, a visual condemnation by city and church authorities of anti-immigrant protests in the cities against the perceived influence of Islam in the West. [Perceived!]
The group Pegida, an acronym that stands for “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West,” held its latest round of weekly demonstrations against darkened backdrops in Dresden and Cologne on Monday. The group wants to reform asylum laws and says it opposes Islamism. Its “evening walks,” which began in the eastern city of Dresden in October, have seen increased numbers in recent weeks. The latest rally in Dresden attracted 18,000 people on Monday night, police said.
The demonstrations have spread from Dresden to other cities and garnered enormous media attention, but in a sign of the backlash growing against the populist movement, thousands of counter-demonstrators took to the streets Monday to show support for tolerance, asylum and immigration.
Will there be an increase in the number of persons protesting against Islamism after these Islamic jihadist terror attacks in France? Will the anti-Pegida people continue to protest against those who (quite sensibly, it seems) fear the Islamization of the West? Will these progressives continue to call the potential victims of Islamization racist bigots?
Don’t hold your breath waiting for the world leaders who gather on Sunday to cry out for tolerance or for freedom for the oppressed female citizens of the Islamic world. But wait! Are they even citizens of their oppressive world?
Once again, unfortunately, we might expect to see the real victims and those who are truly threatened (free peoples) ignored while the alleged world leaders seek to elevate Muslims as the true victims, who are supposedly more threatened by Islamophobia and racism than are non-Muslims threatened by Islamization or Islamic jihadist terror attacks.
Will the pattern be broken? Or will the long, slow slide into submission continue?
