If each congressperson confronting United States President Barack Obama in writing this week, follows through on their words, less than 27 more lawmakers at the federal level are needed to indict him as a war criminal, among 24 other offenses.

Congressional leaders are telling Obama that he would be violating the United States Constitution, an impeachable offence, if he goes ahead with his plan to engage in military action against Syria. Most of them want a Special Session to be called. Otherwise, reports are that Obama would strike Syria while the Congresspersons are away on recess.

“He began his presidency prematurely winning the Nobel Peace Prize and could end it being impeached for starting an illegal war without congressional or UN approval – violating both domestic and international law,” stated Kevin Zeese in an email on Friday.

Zeese says that congressional Republicans “have laid a very real impeachment trap for Obama if he goes to war without congressional approval.”

The numbers are climbing fast. By the end of Thursday, 140 Congresspersons had signed related statements to Obama.

They are not, however, all Republicans: 72 Dems have also confronted Obama this week.

At least 191 Members of the House of Representatives, including the 72 Democrats, have done at least one of the following things in the last few days:

1) signed a letter initiated by California Democrat Barbara Lee saying that there must be Congressional debate and vote before war with Syria;

2) signed a letter initiated by Virginia Republican Scott Rigell saying that there must be Congressional debate and vote before war with Syria;

3) issued a statement calling for a Congressional debate and vote before war with Syria. I don’t claim that this count is exhaustive. If you know of other examples, please share them in the comments.

Now 60 congresspersons have signed Lee’s letter.

“President Obama knows the limits of his powers,” Keese said Friday. “In fact, if there is an impeachment proceeding his own words will be quoted.

While campaigning for president, Obama told the Boston Globe: “The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”

Keese says that “Vice President Joe Biden, in a 2007 campaign event in Iowa, went further, not only stating clearly that the president does not have unilateral power to conduct military attacks but threatening impeachment of President Bush if he did so.

“The Green Shadow Cabinet of the United States was explicit calling on President Obama to seek congressional approval before going to war, noted that under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the US Constitution, it is the Congress that determines whether the United States goes to war.

“They also highlight the potential of impeachment writing: ‘If President Obama launches an attack without prior explicit authorization by Congress, he will have committed an offense worthy of impeachment,’” said Zeese, who serves as Attorney General in the alternative cabinet.

  • When Congress says that Obama has crossed the Red Line as he proceeds with an attack on Syria — is that a countermand for the military to stand down? The potential for confusion and mayhem is very great when there is a rogue executive branch.

  • If Obama’s confronted by the GOP then he’ll lose and it’ll be the Apocalypse bec Obama’s the Antichrist look at the video he can’t stand being the Antichrist but it’s true he is the AntiChrist himself IN PerSON.

  • Let him give the call and then immediately arrest him! Give order for the US military to stand down when given the unlawful order!!!

  • Yeah wishful thinking.

    I wish the Republicans had that kind of nerve, but they are cowards.

    Once the whore media kicks in with their demonization of all those “racist” Republicans who DARE to stand up to “our” beloved Commander in Chief, then the only calls they will be making is to beg him for forgiveness.

    Obama is bad, but he wouldn’t be as bad as he is if the Republicans had some balls and actually stood up to him.

    There are a whole number of things (e.g. Fast and Furious, Benghazi, IRS scandals) that the Stupid Party could have used against Obama, and they have refused.

    Let history bear witness: The reason Obama is so bad, is at least in part due to the Republicans who refused to stand against him.

  • Obama does’nt have the balls to fire on Syria after the U.K. pulled out ..

  • Regardless of Syria, Obama needs to be impeached, and he and Bush I and II and their war mongering cronies need to prosecuted.
    And my point is?
    Oh well.

    • And you point is well-taken, thank you. 100% agree. Both parties are as corrupt as can be, so Americans better wake up and smell the most popular 2rd Party in existence, as other nations have done – the Green Party.
